Missouri

Man Up Springfield (Missouri) is headed by volunteers Justus Boever and Jim Barber. Both men have a passion to see other men care for the fatherless and know the importance of men living out their calling to protect and provide. The Springfield Chapter is currently focusing on providing respite care to single mothers by hanging out with their kiddos for a while so the mamas can catch a much-needed break.

About Justus

My name is Justus Boever and I am currently in the process of applying to medical school. My whole desire for becoming a doctor lies in reaching the underserved. Time and time again, I see how a child living in an underserved community is there because he or she does not have a father. This is what led me to join Man Up and Go. I have traveled extensively in the United States, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Iraq, and the one thing all these countries have in common is the destruction left from men not taking responsibility for their actions, whether it be providing for his family, protecting his family, or even being present in his family’s home. I have seen the effects of what not having a strong man in a child’s life does, and I hope to partner with as many people as possible in order to change the culture of the world, and that culture is men who are not being the men God has designed them to be.

About Jim

I believe that a big part of the orphan crisis is because men are not carrying through on what God calls us to be as men, husbands, and fathers. Many men have not had positive role models to even know what that looks like. My focus and interest is to impact the fatherlessness that is in the world and particularly in the US through programs/services to mentor, educate, and challenge fathers to step it up and be the father He calls us to be. I also want to encourage other fathers to reach out to those without fathers to adopt/mentor/be a role model to them.
