Man Up launched its Man Up 100 initiative in two regions of the country in the last few months – SW Missouri and the Tampa Bay area. We wanted to update you on the progress so you can see how God is moving in and through a group of men (and women!) to serve foster and adoptive families.
Man Up 100 Goal
The goal of the Man Up 100 initiative is fairly simple to understand: we want to see 100 men at any given time in a given geographic area embracing and demonstrating Authentic Masculinity according to James 1:27 (Pure and undefiled religion is to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained from the world), We do this through 3 simple strategies:
- GATHER. Men gather quarterly to encourage one another in biblical masculinity and to discuss how God is moving in the community through their efforts.
- GIVE. Men sacrifice financially every quarter to fund programs like our Adopt a Family program, which serves foster and adoptive families.
- GO. Men sacrifice their time to serve these families through practical expressions of Gospel love. These include providing meals to foster families, doing work projects around the house, or providing resources for every day living and special events.
We’re tracking the impact of the Man Up 100 initiative, with our ultimate goal of increasing the likelihood of foster parents continuing the hard work of fostering. With each couple we lose, it literally costs thousands of dollars to replace them, not to mention time lost. We believe the Man Up 100 initiative will save the state money over the long haul as less resources have to be devoted to recruiting and training and licensing new foster parents. If we “love the one we’re with” a little better, everyone wins.
Two-Month Impact (Sept-Oct 2019)
If you’re having trouble reading the columns, here is another look at the data (*Note* this is just from our Man Up 100 Tampa Bay crew):
Our SW Missouri crew has also done a group trauma training and are preparing for the same kind of impact. They currently have 22 men enrolled.
Below are a few of the pictures that tell the stories of what Man Up 100 Tampa Bay has been doing. These guys are incredible. They’re giving their time both on weekends and during the week to help foster families. They’re donating their money. They’re also modeling Authentic Masculinity to their sons and daughters, as many of the men bring their kiddos to help. It is truly awesome to see what God is doing through His people through the Man Up 100 initiative!
One of our Man Up 100 guys celebrates helping a foster family move from one home to a bigger one to accommodate more children.
This long time foster family poses for a pic after one of our guys replaced a non-working garbage disposal and brought a hot meal.
The two above pics show some of our Man Up 100 men putting together a swing set for a foster family of 5.
Clearly the kids approved!
We have also participated in a few community events where we handed out gifts to foster families and spread the word about Man Up, Jesus, and Authentic Masculinity.
Some of our guys were able to support our local Child Welfare Agency’s event benefiting children in our system of care who are aging out and need jobs.
One of the most impactful things we can do is bring a meal to a foster family. One our guys, Joe, brought his daughter on the above occasion. He felt the Lord’s presence during the entire ordeal.
Often times the kids in the foster care system come with a trash bag of very little belongings. Many times they don’t have shoes. The above kiddos were recipients of new shoes through the Man Up 100 initiative.
Just the Beginning
The stories above are just a very few that have happened since we launched the program in August. The sky is the limit as to the long-term impact of the Man Up 100 initiative. Below are some of the responses from our families and even the men participating in the initiative.
We’re so excited to see how God is moving among His people! Ultimately all of the work we do is for Him, for His glory, and so that people can see tangible expressions of His love.
