Tomorrow we have a team of 13 leaving for Africa on a special trip. Folks from Florida, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Colorado will converge together to visit our ministry partners in both Ethiopia and Uganda.
We haven’t done a trip like this since 2012, visiting two countries in one trip.
We’ll spend the first 6 days in Ethiopia ministering with Glory to Glory International Church, Carry 117, and the ladies from Brook Hills Development Organization. All of these ministries serve in Korah, the trash dump community where over 130,000 Ethiopians call home in the capital city of Addis Ababa.
While in Ethiopia, we’ll be encouraging the women who are learning skills that keep them off the trash and employed with dignity. We will conduct some outreaches in the community and of course love big on the children with bible stories and a VBS-style couple of mornings. We’re also helping host a soccer tournament in which Glory to Glory sponsors a team for the boys in the community.
From there, 10 of the team members will head to Uganda (the other 3 will remain in Addis Ababa to serve), where we will work with our partners in Jinja, Kibuku, and Pallisa to conduct our second annual Woman Up conferences. With 10 women on this trip, it serves as a unique opportunity to fulfill the second portion of James 1:27, which is to “visit…widows in their distress.”
Of course we’ll have the opportunity to love on the kids and visit the children so many of you sponsor to hand-deliver your notes and gifts. (If you’re interested in sponsoring, please consider doing so for the following partner ministries: Bethel Junior School, Kerith Children’s Home, CECCAI in the DR.)
Finally, the men in Uganda will launch three cohorts of 20 men each in our year-long Authentic Masculinity Program. We are stoked to launch this 3-phase program which focuses on Biblical masculinity, income generating activities, and micro-loans in a covenant community. This is the culmination of 5-years of equipping men in Uganda through our men’s conferences, and we can barely contain our excitement about this – it’s been a long time coming!
May Jesus get all the glory for the great things He has done!
