MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DASH
Life often feels like a marathon.
We're taught to pace ourselves, to endure, to persevere.
But what if life isn't a marathon at all? What if it's a sprint? A brief, fleeting moment between birth and death?
The Bible calls life a "vapor," a mist that quickly disappears. It's a powerful image, reminding us of the transient nature of our existence.
In the grand scheme, our time on Earth is a mere blink of an eye. It's in this context that the concept of "The Great Dash" emerges.
The dash is the hyphen between the day we're born and the day we die. It represents the time to make a difference and leave a lasting impact. So, what should we do with our dash? Should we simply coast through life, content with a comfortable existence? Or should we strive to live a life of purpose and meaning?
The answer, of course, is the latter.
The Great Dash is about making the most of our limited time. As James 4:14 reminds us, "Yet you do not know what will happen tomorrow. Your life is like a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."
It's about living a life that matters, a life that leaves a positive mark on the world. But what does that mean, exactly?
It doesn't necessarily mean achieving fame or fortune.
It doesn't mean being a superstar or a celebrity.
It simply means living a life aligned with your values and passions. It means serving others, making a difference in your community, and pursuing your dreams with unwavering determination.
It means living a life filled with love, joy, and gratitude. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind. We can become so focused on our needs and desires that we forget the bigger picture.
But the Great Dash reminds us that life is more than just surviving. It's about thriving, about making a difference, about leaving a legacy.
Matthew 25:21 provides a powerful reminder of what it means to live a life of purpose as we should desire Jesus to tell us at the end of our “race”: "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master."
So, let's make the most of our dash. Let's live a life that is filled with purpose and meaning. Let's make a difference in the world, one day at a time.
As we reflect on the importance of making the most of our "dash," it's also a call to action.
