KINGDOM > EVERYTHING

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 6:33-34

In the Counter Kingdom, men are called to prioritize God’s Kingdom above all else, reflecting a deep commitment to spiritual values rather than earthly concerns. This eternal perspective is rooted in Jesus’ teachings from Matthew 6:33-34, where He instructs His followers to, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” This directive challenges the common human tendency to pursue material security, comfort, and personal ambition. Consider the experience of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Their choice to pursue their own desires led to a breakdown of harmony, resulting in fear, greed, and a competitive survival mentality. This shift marked a departure from God’s original design for humanity, turning life into a “dog-eat-dog” struggle focused on individual gain. This should cause us to ponder whether we truly believe we are just evolved beings or if there is a higher calling that allows us not just to survive, but to thrive.

Jesus’ teaching presents a radical alternative: by seeking God’s Kingdom, individuals can free themselves from the burdens and worries that plague everyday life. The promise is that when we align our priorities with spiritual goals, our practical needs – such as food and shelter – will be met. This freedom from worry allows believers to engage more fully in the present moment, experiencing joy in their relationship with God and in serving others. Ultimately, the message encourages reflection on our choices. Many men lead lives of “quiet desperation,” settling for less than what God intends. However, the pursuit of God’s Kingdom offers a pathway to purpose and meaning, inviting us to live fully in the richness of His love and grace. In doing so, we discover that the life God desires for us is not only about individual well-being but also about thriving together in community, joyfully serving and uplifting one another in the spirit of the Counter Kingdom.

“If we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these other things will be given to us as well. But if we seek those other things first, we will miss the Kingdom of God and probably not obtain the other things either.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please help us to break free from the pursuit of earthly pleasures and to seek Your Kingdom first. May our hearts be filled with a passion for Your righteousness and a desire to live according to Your will. Grant us the courage to detach from the anxieties and worries of this world. Remind us that You provide for our needs and that we can trust in Your care. Empower us to live fully in the present moment, experiencing the joy of Your love and the fulfillment of serving You and others.

In Jesus' name, we pray.
