REAL MEN LOVE LIKE JESUS
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and truth. 1 John 3:16-18
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to reflect on love and its role in Biblical Masculinity.
Biblical masculinity is rooted in something other than worldly love, which is often transactional. As men, our lives must be characterized by God’s definition of love, exemplified by unconditional affection and self-sacrifice.
Jesus, 100% divine yet 100% man, is the undisputed example of Man’s role as “lover”, and we would do good to follow His lead. As members of the body of Christ, we cannot afford to close up our hearts to those in need. When we serve and share with others, we are demonstrating the overflow of our hearts.
If you feel your heart is “closed”, sometimes all it takes to “soften” you up is action. Sometimes we have to prime the pump before we feel like being loving.
Make up your mind right now to buy a meal for a homeless person, show compassion and tenderness for a child, or pay for someone’s coffee. Do it this week! Watch if God doesn’t stir that crusty heart of yours into a more pliable one He can use.
This message is from the “Man As Lover” lesson of the “Man As…” series.
